No, I did not make the toasted ravioli you see in the picture–the chef at Charlie Gitto’s is responsible for that. I’ll come back to the ravioli and other awesome dishes in two shakes of a lamb’s tail..okay, I was lying, maybe 10 shakes. Oh, by the way, I was in St. Louis this past week and I had a good time 🙂
We walked around downtown and took the opportunity to visit the Arch but did not go to the top. I have a fear of heights and I do best at ground level. Online guy didn’t wish to go up so we took pictures and moved on.
If you are ever in St. Louis try and visit Union Station as it is so beautiful inside. The old train station which is now part hotel and part mall. You can read all about the St. Louis station here.
Simply walk into the hotel and you will be amazed. I’ll show you why.
The absolute best part of the trip for me was the zoo 🙂 Oh yes, I went twice! The zoo is so awesome that it has a train you can ride 🙂 I was a kid all over again.
I’m such a kid that I even went to the children’s center to pet the goats. I mean, wouldn’t you?
I touched a baby hammerhead shark and stingrays–something I would not have done had I been on my own. I was with an awesome friend, having an awesome time and was encouraged to stick my hand in the water. Stingrays feel soft and smooth, especially the baby ones 🙂
St. Louis zoo will definitely not disappoint. Make sure you go to the butterfly garden and the penguins and puffins area!
Puffins are smaller, can fly, and belong to a different family. Alas, all the puffin pics I have are fuzzy 😦
Next stop was the Missouri Botanical gardens and I think we got through most of it–Japanese, Chinese, German, Ottoman, Victorian, English Woodland gardens..and my favorite, the Climatron, which is a greenhouse enclosed in a dome.
Finally we have the FOOD!!!
DESSERT! We ordered three, yes three! and it was my idea. The owner or manager even came over to our table and exclaimed “Three desserts!”. I did not bow my head in shame but simply smiled and continued to eat 🙂
I know restaurants offer smaller versions of some of their desserts but I wish they would offer a two or four bite (or however many people are at the table) sample of all of their desserts so you wouldn’t walk away upset that you hadn’t tried the amazing mousse. Don’t ya think? If you know of such a place, speak now!
Exit great Italian food and enter finger licking downright tasty barbecue at *drum roll*…
Burnt ends you ask? I shall explain–see the kinda blackish meat at the back there? So what they do is take the ends of the brisket and re-smoke them and serve them as burnt ends. They are very good. I regret that I did not take a better picture of it but I was drooling over the plate at that point and you gotta eat it while its hot 🙂
Oh, almost forgot–we took in a baseball game–Cardinals versus Cubs. It did not end well for the Cardinals but the Busch stadium was pretty nice.
